Another project which continues our ongoing relationship with The Oxford Collection, was the refurbishment and extension of Gees Restaurant, completed in May 2022.  The project had three distinct components:

  • The conversion of the old florist shop next door in to The Gallery which creates a function room combined with gallery space adjacent and served by Gees, this involved alteration of internal ground floor layouts, removing walls and replacing with exposed steelwork, along with a substantial area of ground floor replacement to provide a consistent floor level and open dining space.
  • The refurbishment of the current Gees restaurant was a second phase of the project with an extremely short programme; just 10 weeks of restaurant shut down. OMK designed a new rear extension building to house cold and dry storage, staff room and an enclosed roof top plant area. Using steel piles, steel frame and precast concrete, wrapped in timber cladding, detailed to enable rapid construction via a narrow site access.
  • The restaurant refurbishment required a whole new roof structure to the existing kitchen which was entirely replaced, enabling all new services installation in the void created and support for a
55 square metre retractable canopy which shelters the newly created secret garden courtyard.
